CHANGEOVER DAY HAS COME AND GONE!
From changeover day, which was June 12th 2009, there will be no more analog broadcasts. The switch over is known as “the Digital TV Transition” (DTV). If your current TV is an old model that does not receive digital broadcasts, you will need to obtain a digital-to-analog converter box which will allow you to continue to watch television on that set. The Government has set up a “Digital to Analog Converter Box Coupon Program” This began in January 2008 and each household can apply to the NTIA for up to TWO coupons of $40 each to help towards buying digital to analog converter boxes. The cost of these boxes will be around $60 to $80.
Why did the change over happen?
Digital offers improved sound and picture quality, and broadcasters will be able to offer more choices of programming by "Multicasting" - that is providing several different programs on ONE channel.
